Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I’m Dr. Bruce Eimer, but my clients call me “Dr. Bruce”.
I am a dad to two grown daughters, and I am also a grandpa, or as I’m called, “Pop-Pop”. I have been a psychologist and a therapist for over 34 years. When I started working in my profession, I worked as a school psychologist. Then I switched to doing counseling and therapy in private practice. I believe respect is crucial in the therapeutic relationship and I approach my client’s with compassion, sensitivity, and warmth. I believe therapy should be a combination of fun and hard work. I offer a safe place for you to talk and work out your concerns.
When I was a teenager, I was not happy. I wished that my parents would have taken me to see a good therapist, but they did not. When I went to college, I at first entered the Pre-Medical track, but soon wandered off that track to pursue the study of Psychology. I graduated college with a BS in Psychology, and then entered graduate school to become a School Psychologist. After earning my Masters, I began working as a School Psychologist while I worked on my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. However, I became tired of mostly doing testing in the schools because I wanted to do more counseling and therapy. After earning my Doctorate in Educational Psychology, I worked in hospitals and clinics and then pursued further training in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy. I began my practice in 1986 as a licensed clinical psychologist.
I love helping children and teenagers with troubles and conflicts find their way to liking themselves, becoming happy, and setting smart goals for themselves. In my counseling and therapy practice, I am client centered. This means I design my approach to your unique needs using my knowledge and experience with many approaches to therapy.
I use Clinical Hypnosis in my practice, as well as Rational Emotive Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Play Therapy. Therapy needs to be a combination of work and play. Rational Emotive Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy are great because they keep you grounded in reality, and they are effective in straightening out crooked thinking.
I also do Parent Counseling and Parent Training. Parents often need therapy too! Any many parents need some training on how to communicate better with their kids.
I love doing Hypnosis! Hypnosis is not about making you do silly things. It is about helping you discover and use your inner strength. Hypnosis is great because it bypasses the overly critical part of your conscious mind and it makes it easier to change bad habits you otherwise find difficult to change. Of course, you must want to change, or you won’t change. Hypnosis cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. Also, Hypnosis is easy and fun to do.
Research and my clinical experience show that children and teens are better at hypnosis than most adults. Perhaps this is because you have an easier time using your imagination than your parents do?
I specialize in treating children and teenagers with the following types of problems:
- Trauma and abuse
- Anxiety, fears, and phobias
- Shame and guilt,
- Depression and self-esteem problems
- Anger problems
